On 23rd April, we celebrate the transformative power of books and pay tribute to those who write them.
UNESCO chose this date to honour three great authors who died in 1616: Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.
We also mark Spanish Language Day, in honour of Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote, one of the most important works in world literature.
It is a day to recognise the written word, cultural diversity, and the joy of reading.
Because books connect us, inspire us, and help us stay free.

Cada 23 de abril celebramos el poder transformador de los libros y rendimos homenaje a sus autores.
La UNESCO eligió esta fecha en memoria de tres grandes escritores fallecidos en 1616: Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare y el Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.
También conmemoramos el Día del Idioma Español, en honor a Cervantes, autor de El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha, una de las obras más importantes de la literatura universal.
Una jornada para valorar la palabra escrita, la diversidad cultural y el placer de leer.
Porque los libros nos conectan, nos inspiran y nos hacen libres.
